Marin County Civic Center: View From The Lagoon

Learning and Organizational Development

Fostering a culture of learning, growth, and development.

We encourage engagement, learning, and leadership at all levels of County employment. We want to empower our staff to do their best work. Our goal is to create a diverse, culturally aware, innovative, and effective workplace.

New Hire Orientation Program

The New Hire Orientation Program helps employees get started in their new role at the County. It includes:

An in-person New Hire Orientation, where employees will:

  • Get an introduction to the County, employee resources, and regulations.
  • Meet other new hires.
  • Meet with their union.
  • Take a Civic Center tour.

An Employee Benefits and Wellness Orientation, where employees will:

  • Learn about benefits offered to County employees.
  • Hear from MCERA, the Marin County Employees' Retirement Association.

An Executive Leader Meet & Greet, where employees will:

  • Meet our County Executive.
  • Hear from other members of the Executive Leadership team.

Trainings

We offer different classes during the year. This includes on-demand classes, hosted workshops, and webinars. Our goal is to offer something for everyone. We have classes to fit different styles and interests. Topics include business skills, technology, leadership, and more.

Performance Management Process

We want to help employees continue to grow and develop. To support this, all employees have performance evaluations. Performance evaluations can help employees:

  • Improve their skills.
  • Get feedback on their work.
  • Make sure that everyone is working towards the same goals.

Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)

Eligible employees can apply to get up to $3,000 each Fiscal Year to help cover tuition costs. By supporting our employee's education, we can prepare for a stronger future.

Marin Mentoring Program (MMP)

The Marin Mentoring Program (MMP) is a partnership with the Marin County DREAM Collaborative and Affinity Groups. We created it to help build relationships between employees across our organization. There are two tracks, a New Employee Track and a Career Development track. Employees in the program get paired with a mentor who can:

  • Offer advice and provide support.
  • Share their networks.
  • Help with career growth.

Applications for the Marin Mentoring Program open once a year.
