Tips for Applying

How to Complete an Application

  • The County of Marin only accepts online applications.
  • Create an account in the online application system. You can save your application and use it to apply for many job openings. Your application will be online and you can access it anytime by logging into your account.
  • You can upload resumes and other documents when you apply. Resumes cannot replace the application itself unless the job announcement says otherwise.
  • Read through the full job announcement and application instructions before applying. Following instructions can help ensure a smooth submission.
  • You must submit applications by the closing date and time indicated on the job announcement. "Open and Continuous" recruitments may close at any time after a 14-day filing period. Apply to open, continuous postings right away. This helps avoid missing the filing period.
  • Allow yourself plenty of time. All jobs require a county application form. Most require answers to extra, job-specific questions.
  • Suggestions for completing the supplemental questions:
    • Use word processing software such as MS Word to write your responses first. This allows you to edit with ease and copy and paste your final product into the application.
    • Do not use HTML tags and bullets in your responses.
    • Use spell check and save a copy of your responses.
    • If possible, save your document as a Rich Text File.
    • Resumes are not accepted in place of responding to the questions.
    • Provide complete answers to all parts of the required questions.
  • Review your application before you submit it. Clarity, grammar, spelling, and following instructions are important. Ensure that all information submitted is accurate and complete. Once you submit your application, you cannot make changes to it.
  • Check your email. We send notifications to you throughout the process. Ensure your spam settings allow our emails to reach you. You may also log into your GovernmentJobs.com account.
